What is your first holiday memory?
My parents used to rent a cottage in a suburb of Atlantic City . It was one of those small houses on stilts over the salt marsh near the city. I will ever be grateful to my parents for taking us to places that were so enriching.

Best holiday?
I recently cruised around the Greek islands with my wife, Yvette, for her birthday. We chartered a beautiful wooden sailing boat with friends and had a magical time stopping at island after island to replenish or dine in the harbour restaurants. It was one of the most relaxing and carefree times with people I love to be with.
Best food experience?
A few years back I travelled with Yvette through France and Italy to do the research for my first book, Food and Friends. I visited some of the best food regions, but the simplest meals were the best. One, at La Locanda dell'Isola on Isola Comacina, the only island on Lake Como , was a meal quite unique, yet based on such simple ingredients (lake trout, roast onion, boiled ham, lemon-basted chicken, parmesan) that it made this whole experience one of my best.
